Fashion Fix: Autumn/Winter 2019 Trends

Autumn. The temperature drops, the days start to get a little shorter and of course an opportunity to change out our wardrobe arises.

With each new season as an influx of new fashions hit the stores, our inboxes and of course our Instagram feeds, new fashion trends become evident.

So let’s take a look at what some of the big trends currently taking over our feeds for Autumn / Winter 2019 are;

Hair Clips

If this trend doesn’t take you straight back to your days as a little girl, I don’t know what will. Trends in hair accessories are always reinventing themselves, remember the silky scarf of summer 2018 that was everywhere? The current must-have item is a well-placed clip or hair slide.

Metallic, animal print, just the one, wear in a pair? Take your pick. There is no right or wrong way to wear this trend, which for me is a big part of its appeal.

Animal Print

I know I know, animal print is certainly not new to fashion, but boy oh boy is it having a moment right now.

The difference is that the animal kingdom is being quite well represented in stores at present. There is an abundance of snakeskin, cheetah and of course, leopard print items hitting the racks.

Anything from a skirt, a shirt, a dress, bag, shoes, hair ties, jacket…you name it, it’s out there. Perfect if you just want to dabble in the trend, or go all in.

Suiting

The 80’s power suit has been reinvented, and it is making itself be known! Every fashion it girl worth her weight in handbags is sharing her suiting #ootd on Instagram, and if you ask me, with good reason.

As a personal stylist, I am always working with my clients to create diversity within their wardrobes, and this trend for me goes a long way to doing that.

Suiting is of course intended to be worn together, but the bonus comes from wearing the items separately with your other wardrobe items. By far my favourite of the current trends.

Satin Skirts

If you are looking to branch out from your usual bottom half options, this trend might just be for you. Despite the dressed up nature of the fabric, this season’s satin skirts are a really great and versatile wardrobe item.

They are on offer this season in abundance in block colours, prints and in a variety of lengths.

My hot tip, when it comes to looking for a satin skirt, is to opt for one with an elasticized waist, rather than with a zip closure.

I have found that a zip closure often weighs the fabric of the skirt down, creating some buckling in the fabric, a problem you won’t have with the elastic option.

Trends can be overwhelming and tricky to navigate. The key success is to always consider if they integrate with and compliment your existing style. You always want to feel like the best version of yourself when you get dressed, so staying true to what you feel comfortable with is key.

Don’t forget, just because an item is “on trend” it doesn’t mean you have to make it a part of your wardrobe and life.

Be picky and stay true to you.
