Meet The Ladies At Pixel Coffee

Wanna know more about the trio behind Pixel Coffee? We sat down with the dream team to find out more about one of our fave coffee spots!

Tell us a little bit about the ladies behind Pixel Coffee

Jennifer, Juliana and myself (Kaya) have all been involved in speciality coffee for a while now, we all met through doing the Barista Competitions in Perth. Jen and Julz won the Barista whilst I won latte art. We are all passionate about quality coffee, food and our beautiful city.

What were you three up to before you opened Pixel Coffee?

We all worked at 5 Senses Coffee. We knew Smuggled Seeds in Leederville had gone on the market and saw its potential with a renovated space. I think we’ve all wanted to own a cafe for a long time now.

Where did the name Pixel Coffee come from?

It came from the idea that a pixel is a small part of a bigger picture. We wanted to make an imprint in Perth and be known for quality coffee, food and service.

What made you take the plunge?

Right time, right place, right people!

What has been the most challenging thing about starting a cafe in Perth?

It’s a multifaceted business so having to learn a lot of different things very quickly to do the best job we can, has been challenging. I would also have to say the 5am wake up calls in winter has been hard!! Bring on Perth summer!!

What has been your biggest high-five-to-selves moment in your business so far?

I think when we had a comment from a lady that she loved our cafe so much that it’s inspired her to start her own was pretty humbling. Inspiring others to realise their dreams was a huge moment for us all.

What has been the best marketing tool for Pixel Coffee?

Instagram by far, and it’s one of my favourite things to do. Capturing a beautiful moment in time and sharing it is a highlight of my day. To have people come in and say “I have to have that cake I saw on Insta this morning” is pretty special.

What exciting things do you have planned for the rest of the year?

So many! As well as constantly working on our food and beverage menu we are planning on doing some special events at Pixel at night time. We will be having a barista latte art throw down in July, and then will be working on doing some coffee tastings (cuppings) and also tea degustations. Perhaps a sweet long table dinner!?!!! So excited.
